The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has officially declared the conclusion of the 50% transportation fare discount on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.

This discount was initially put in place in response to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s directive on August 2, 2023, as part of measures to ease the financial burden on commuters.

In an official statement released on its X account on Saturday, LAMATA informed the public that the temporary 50% fare reduction would come to an end on Sunday, with transportation fares returning to their original rates on Monday.

The agency encouraged residents to prepare for the resumption of regular transport fare rates, emphasizing the necessity to take note of the impending change.

“The 50% rebate in transport fare in the regulated transport system in Lagos ends on Sunday, a statement by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority has said.

“The 50% fare rebate was announced by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on August 2, 2023.

“The public is hereby informed that from Monday, November 6, 2023, transport fare will return to the pre-2nd August 2023 rate.”

The discounted transport fares have significantly alleviated the financial strain on commuters over the past few months.

As the discount period concludes, commuters are advised to prepare for the resumption of standard fare rates and plan their transportation accordingly.
