Lagos State Government Launches Electronic Real Estate Litigation System

Lagos State Government has launched an Electronic Real Estate Litigation System (LIS PENDENS ELECTRONIC SYSTEM) designed to provide easy access to relevant information on the legal status of registered Property for those who engage in real estate business.

Speaking at the ceremony, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Adeniji Kazeem noted that the program will offer end users the platform for filling and uploading Lis Pendens entries into the system for the benefit of real estate buyers.

According to Kazeem, who was represented by the Solicitor General / Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Funmilola Odunlami, the Lis Pendens system, will among other things, provide members of the public with information on properties with a pending case or the ones subject to litigation.

He informed that the new technology will also be of great use to professionals in the industry to conduct an efficient search of real estate, curtail risk associated with property transactions and enhance due diligence in property transactions.

In his words, “The Lagos State Government has remained committed to protecting the interest of property/real estate investors across the State. With this initiative, the real estate sector is expected to further attract a significant amount of attention as well as accelerate development process in the sector.”

The event was also attended by representatives of the Nigerian Bar Association from the five districts of Lagos, the Lands Bureau and the Office of the Surveyor-General of Lagos State.
