Lagos State Govt. Launches Campaign Against Domestic And Sexual Violence

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT) has begun an intensified campaign against all forms of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).

The agency aims to reach out to two million residents in its crusade against the societal menace to lead the crusade against the menace.

This was disclosed by the DSVRT coordinator, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi during a training session for media practitioners in the state.

She said the outreach and sensitisation campaign would cover Fagba, Ajuwon, Surulere, Ikeja, Kosofe, Ikorodu, Iwaya, Epe, Badagry, Onike, Ijanikin, Ojo, Idimu, Lagos Island, Alimosho and Agege.

The DSVRT would also get to residents living in Badore, Sangotedo, Oke Yaya, and Owutu.

According to her, members of the team would conduct door-to-door campaigns, engage school children, hold town hall meetings and “visitations to salons”.

“There would also be an extensive media outreach through Billboards, radio and television jingles in English, pidgin and other indigenous languages,” she said.

The programme is to last for six months with the primary aim of increasing awareness about the menace, improve response coordination and drastically reduce incidences of sexual and gender-based abuse.
