Late Nigerian Actor Alexx Ekubo to Be Buried June 18 in Abia

LAGOS, Nigeria — The family of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo has officially released the funeral arrangements following his passing at the age of 40 after a battle with advanced metastatic kidney cancer.

In an emotional obituary statement signed by Mazi Alex Oji Ekubo Okwaraeke and shared via the actor’s official Instagram page on Monday, the family expressed deep gratitude to colleagues, friends, and fans for the overwhelming outpouring of love, prayers, and visits during this difficult period.

Okay News reports that the multi-award-winning actor, whose sudden passing on May 11 threw the Nigerian movie industry into mourning, was described as a man who lived a vibrant life anchored on generosity, faith, and warmth.

According to the official timeline released by the family, the funeral rites will commence with a service of songs on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at The Monarch Event Center, Lekki, Lagos, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, where attendees are requested to dress in white.

The final rites will then shift to his hometown in Abia State. A Christian wake-keep will hold on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the family compound located at 7 Ekubo-Okwaraeke Avenue, Aziukwukwa, Ujari Village, Arochukwu.

The funeral service is scheduled for the following morning, Thursday, June 18, 2026, at the Mary Slessor School in Amanagwu Village, Arochukwu. Interment will follow immediately afterward at the family residence, with a reception to wrap up the ceremonies back at the Mary Slessor School grounds.

The family has urged the public to continue keeping the actor’s wife and the immediate family in their thoughts and prayers as they prepare to celebrate the lasting legacy of the beloved screen star.
