LIVERPOOL, England — Liverpool FC has announced the departure of head coach Arne Slot with immediate effect, bringing an end to his two-year tenure at Anfield.
Slot joined the club in June 2024 and enjoyed immediate success, guiding Liverpool to their 20th English league title in his debut season. He was named LMA Manager of the Year after leading the Reds to the Premier League crown, the Carabao Cup final, and the UEFA Champions League Round of 16. During the 2025-26 campaign, he secured Champions League qualification for a second consecutive season and helped the club reach the quarter-finals of the competition.
Okay News reports that Liverpool’s ownership described the decision as difficult but necessary, praising Slot’s leadership, professionalism, and achievements during his time at the club. The club said he would always be remembered as the manager who delivered Liverpool’s 20th league title and commended the compassion he showed while helping the team navigate the aftermath of the death of forward Diogo Jota.
In a statement, the club said it believes a change in direction is required to maintain the team’s long-term progress, stressing that the move does not diminish Slot’s accomplishments or the respect he commands within the organization.
Liverpool confirmed that the process of appointing a new head coach is already under way. The club wished Slot success in the next phase of his managerial career and stated that he and his family would always be welcome at Anfield.
