Orire Agbaje, a proficient 400-level Economics student at the esteemed University of Ibadan, has been handpicked to serve on the distinguished Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms.

The committee’s inauguration took place under the auspices of President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday, reflecting a forward-looking approach to policy-making by involving young and innovative minds.

Agbaje’s selection underscores her commendable prowess and fervor for tax policy, aligning perfectly with the committee’s objectives.

Under the leadership of Taiwo Oyedele, former Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader at PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC), who has been appointed as the committee’s chairman, Agbaje’s involvement is set to contribute significant insights to the country’s fiscal discourse.

As the President of the Nigerian Universities Tax Club and a holder of an Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualification, Agbaje has already demonstrated her acumen in the field of taxation and financial affairs.

Her multifaceted accomplishments have not gone unnoticed, as she was among the select group of talented young Nigerians chosen for the 2023 Nigeria Higher Education Foundation (NHEF) Scholars Programme.

Agbaje’s LinkedIn profile is a testament to her self-assured and industrious nature. In her own words, “Presently, I’m an undergraduate student of University of Ibadan reading Economics; I major in International and Monetary Economics.” Her academic journey has also led her to explore Accounting (ICAN), Corporate Finance, and Taxation – a testament to her devotion to understanding intricate financial realms. Beyond academia, Agbaje is keen on sports and volunteering, embodying a holistic approach to personal growth.

Her enthusiasm for productivity and adept leadership and interpersonal skills sets her apart as a young individual determined to make a positive impact. Agbaje’s belief in the power of her skills to enact meaningful change aligns seamlessly with her role on the Presidential Committee on Tax Reforms. This appointment signifies not only recognition of her talents but also an opportunity to contribute significantly to the nation’s fiscal landscape.

The committee, with its one-year deadline, shoulders the vital responsibility of addressing Nigeria’s fiscal governance challenges and driving tax reforms to facilitate growth. Agbaje, as a member, will be instrumental in helping the committee achieve its mandate, which includes proposing swift reforms that can be executed within 30 days and presenting crucial reform measures within six months. Her dynamic perspective and tenacity bode well for the comprehensive fiscal policy and tax reform agenda set by the committee.
