The Nigerian military is prepared to step in and take control of the situation if the ongoing protests against economic hardship and bad governance continue to breach security, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, has warned.

At a press conference in Abuja on Friday, Musa stated that the military is currently supporting the police in managing the protests and will only intervene if the situation becomes uncontrollable. He emphasized that the military is on standby, monitoring the situation day and night.

While acknowledging the protesters’ grievances about economic difficulties, Musa appealed to Nigerians to show understanding and unity during these challenging times. He also cautioned against vandalism and looting, urging protesters to express their grievances peacefully.

The CDS’s statement comes as protests continue across the country, with some instances of looting and violence reported. The military’s potential intervention has sparked concerns about the potential for escalation, and it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold.
