The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has expressed disappointment and concern over the destruction of a section of the newly rehabilitated Kano-Maiduguri highway due to flooding. The minister described the situation as “unfortunate” and emphasized the need for a lasting solution to ensure the durability of the road.

A technical team from the ministry has been dispatched to evaluate the damage and identify measures to prevent future occurrences. Umahi also announced the termination of Section 1 of the Kano-Maiduguri road project, which was awarded to Dantata & Sawoe Ltd in 2007, due to the effluxion of time.

The minister highlighted the importance of reviewing the liability period for federal government projects to ensure value for money and durability. He commended the progress made under the Road Infrastructure Development and Refurbishment Investment Tax Credit Scheme and urged contractors to complete projects within record time.

Umahi’s comments came during a performance review meeting with key stakeholders, including Dangote Group of Companies Plc, BUA Group of Companies Plc, and Mainstream Energy Solutions Ltd.
