Muhammadu Sanusi II Reinstated as Emir of Kano, Receives Appointment Letter

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

Muhammadu Sanusi II has been reinstated as the Emir of Kano, receiving his letter of appointment from Governor Abba Yusuf on Friday.

This development comes four years after his dethronement by the former governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje.

Governor Yusuf confirmed Sanusi’s reappointment at the Government House in Kano, citing the Emir’s competence, credibility, and popularity.

The governor urged Sanusi to lead according to Islamic tenets and unite the emirate, fostering harmony among Islamic sects in the state.

The reinstatement follows the signing of the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Bill 2024 into law, which dissolves the emirate councils created by Ganduje in 2019.

The new law restores the original Kano Emirate, reversing the division into five emirates.

Sanusi’s initial removal in 2020 was deemed a case of victimization, and his reinstatement is seen as a restoration of justice. The event was attended by traditional rulers, kingmakers, and dignitaries, marking a new chapter in the history of the Kano Emirate.
