Nasarawa State Government Suspends Teachers For Flogging Students

The Nasarawa state government has reacted to the viral footage of a teacher seriously flogging students who failed to resume school early.

The government placed a one-month ban on three teachers of the Government Science Secondary School Nasarawa-Eggon who took part in flogging the students.

The state commissioner of Education, Ahmed Tijani announced the suspension of the teachers in a chat with newsmen on Thursday.

He further revealed ban of corporal punishment in all public schools within the state.

“We have constituted a committee to investigate their matter and report back to the ministry in the next one week, to enable the ministry to take appropriate action” he said.

Tijani also said that the ministry had informed all public schools of this recent development.

Meanwhile, few days ago, actress Funke Akindele called on the ban of corporal punishment in all schools.

She described the act as “wicked” and “evil”.
