The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has announced a nationwide strike scheduled to commence from next Wednesday, raising concerns among citizens already grappling with fuel shortages across the country.

The strike follows President Bola Tinubu’s recent inaugural speech, in which he declared the abolition of fuel subsidies.

NLC President Joe Ajaero conveyed the decision after an emergency meeting of the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) held in the capital city, Abuja.

Ajaero expressed deep dissatisfaction with the government’s stance on the removal of fuel subsidies, particularly emphasizing the role of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.

The ultimatum issued by the NLC demands that the government, specifically the NNPC, revert to the previous price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, by next Wednesday.

Failure to meet this deadline will result in an indefinite protest across the nation.
