Nigeria Democratic Congress Disowns Fake Candidates List

ABUJA, Nigeria — The Nigeria Democratic Congress on Friday, June 19, 2026, disowned a fake list of candidates for elections in Imo, Abia, and Anambra states currently circulating on social media platforms.

The political party issued an official statement on Friday through its National Secretary, Ikenna Enekweizu, to distance the organization from the unauthorized online publications.

Okay News reports that the party submitted its authentic list of candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission through the channels prescribed by the Electoral Act.

“The general public, especially members of the NDC in Imo, Abia, Anambra and other affected states, are hereby urged to disregard the lists of candidates widely circulating on social media as the authentic lists of our party’s candidates from the aforementioned states. The said lists are fake and did not emanate from the party headquarters,” Enekweizu said.

The National Secretary stated that the documents were being distributed by individuals seeking to create confusion and distract the organization from its activities. He added that the political party has launched an internal investigation to identify the origin of the fabrications.

“Such lists in circulation are being peddled by mischief makers and those who do not wish the party well. However, the party is investigating the sources of such fabrications and leakages as they are desperate attempts to cause ill will and distractions within the party,” Enekweizu said.
