Abuja, NIGERIA – The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, has successfully arrested and repatriated a high-profile Chinese fugitive, Xu Qing. The suspect was wanted in Beijing for allegedly orchestrating a massive Ponzi scheme that absorbed over $245 million (approximately ₦336.8 billion) in illegal public deposits.
Xu Qing had reportedly fled to Nigeria on November 5, 2024, to evade a warrant issued by the Shinan Sub-Bureau of Qingdao Public Security. Following sustained surveillance, INTERPOL operatives tracked the fugitive to a factory in Olowotedo, Ogun State, where he was arrested on April 24, 2026. Okay News reports that the suspect was formally repatriated to China on April 28 under bilateral police cooperation agreements to face prosecution.
IGP Disu Reaffirms Commitment to Fighting Transnational Crime
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, praised the operation as a testament to the NPF’s commitment to tackling transnational organised crime. He warned Nigerian employers to perform thorough background checks via the police before hiring foreign nationals, ensuring the country remains “hostile” to international fugitives. The successful repatriation coincides with IGP Disu’s recent establishment of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).
