Trump Pays Tribute to Ted Turner, Criticises CNN After Media Pioneer’s Death

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

Atlanta, UNITED STATES – US President Donald J. Trump has reacted to the death of media mogul Ted Turner, describing him as “one of the greats of all time” while sharply criticising the current state of CNN.

In a social media post seen by Okay News, Trump praised Turner’s legacy in broadcasting, highlighting his role in founding CNN and transforming global news. However, he also lamented the network’s direction after Turner sold it, claiming it had lost credibility and no longer reflected the founder’s vision.

“Ted Turner… founded CNN, sold it, and was personally devastated… It became woke, and everything that he is not all about,” Trump wrote, adding that new ownership could potentially restore the network’s “credibility and glory.”

Turner, who died at the age of 87, was widely regarded as a pioneer of 24-hour news, having launched CNN in 1980 and reshaped how global audiences consume information. His influence extended beyond journalism into sports, entertainment, and philanthropy, including a $1 billion donation to the United Nations.

Turner’s death has triggered global tributes, with Trump’s reaction standing out for combining personal praise with political criticism of modern media institutions.

Trump also described Turner as a personal ally and supporter, saying he was “always willing to fight for a good cause,” underscoring a relationship that went beyond professional admiration.
