Nigeria Police Chief Orders Tighter Katsina School Security

KATSINA, Nigeria: Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, directed the Katsina Police Command to strengthen security around schools across the state on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

Okay News reports that the mandate from the Inspector-General was conveyed by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Department of Finance and Administration, Sulaiman Abdul, during a two-day operational tour of Katsina.

The police were directed to deploy and coordinate patrols to safeguard schools across the region. “The command is ordered to intensify patrols, strengthen intelligence gathering and maintain high police visibility around educational institutions to prevent violent crimes and guarantee a safe environment for teaching and learning,” Abdul said.

During the tour, Abdul visited the Police Children School and the Government Girls Technical and Commercial College in Charanchi Local Government Area. He inspected perimeter fencing, access control points, security posts, and the deployment of police personnel to evaluate existing security measures at the schools.

Abdul also held separate meetings with the management of the schools to obtain firsthand information on their security challenges. He urged the administrators to enforce strict access control measures and promptly report suspicious activities within and around their school premises to security agencies.
