Nigeria to Continue Push for Ex-Niger President’s Release – Minister

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar affirmed Nigeria’s commitment to negotiate for the release of Niger Republic’s deposed President Mohamed Bazoum. Despite the junta’s action earlier in the year, Nigeria, a key ECOWAS member, continues pressing for Bazoum’s freedom, seeking his release to a mutually agreed third country.

Speaking at the United Nations Climate Conference in Dubai, Tuggar emphasized Nigeria’s stance, denying any external influence controlling their decisions.

He clarified that Nigeria’s position aimed at securing Bazoum’s release and discussing sanctions removal with Niger.

Highlighting Nigeria’s historical support for African freedom struggles, Tuggar reiterated Nigeria’s solidarity with Niger.

He dismissed claims of external coercion, underscoring Nigeria’s consistent stand for what is just, drawing parallels with past interventions in other African nations and global issues like Palestine.
