Nigerian Actor Yul Edochie States Peter Obi Cannot Win Presidency Amid Opposition Coalition Talks

LAGOS, Nigeria. Nigerian actor and politician Yul Edochie stated on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi cannot become President of Nigeria.

Edochie, who contested the 2017 Anambra governorship election under the Democratic Peoples Congress, published a statement on his X platform account. Okay News reports that Edochie dismissed Obi’s current political strength and his involvement with the African Democratic Congress.

“Any political party Peter Obi joins will scatter. Whatever he’s doing with ADC is dead on arrival. A total waste of time. It’s not a physical problem. It’s deeper than that,” Edochie said.

“I’m surprised he doesn’t know this already. Or maybe he knows but chooses to ignore it. But the truth remains the truth. Peter Obi cannot be President of Nigeria now,” Edochie said.

Edochie is a supporter of Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu. Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State, was the presidential candidate for the Labour Party in the 2023 general election and has been participating in consultations with opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

During a recent public engagement in Enugu, Obi described the opposition coalition effort as a movement to “rescue Nigeria from poverty, disunity and democratic decline.”

Speaking during a visit to LEA Primary School in Abuja, Obi dismissed speculation that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar might dominate the coalition structure, referring to Abubakar as a “dear elder brother and respected leader.”
