Nigerian Army Denies High Casualty Figures in Borno Attack

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

Abuja, NIGERIA – The Headquarters of Operation HADIN KAI has issued a strong rebuttal against reports claiming high military casualties following the recent terrorist attack in Benisheikh, Borno State.

Okay News reports that the military clarified the details of the encounter in a statement released on Friday, April 10, 2026. Contrary to reports circulating on social media and some television stations alleging that 17 soldiers died, the military confirmed that the actual death toll was four: two officers and two soldiers. Among the fallen was the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimah.

The military also addressed rumors regarding the condition of the Commander’s equipment. The statement clarified that the General was using a high-grade Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle, which became temporarily immobilized during the heat of the counter-assault. Officials stressed that this was a result of the intense combat and not a failure of equipment.

Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for the task force, warned that the videos and photos currently being shared online alongside these reports are unrelated to the Benisheikh incident. He described the spread of such “highly exaggerated” information as a deliberate attempt to undermine public confidence and the sacrifices of the troops.

The military maintained that the attack was successfully repelled and urged the public to rely only on official channels for verified information regarding national security operations.
