The national grid has collapsed for the second time in just three days, plunging multiple regions across Nigeria into darkness.

According to data from the Nigerian System Operator’s portal (niggrid.org), power generation dropped to zero megawatts at approximately 11:30 a.m. on November 7, 2024, affecting all 22 power generation companies nationwide.

The widespread outage was confirmed by several electricity distribution companies on their social media platforms, highlighting the impact on various networks.

The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), which serves parts of Lagos, addressed the issue in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

“Please be informed that we experienced a system outage today 07 November 2024 at 11:29Hrs affecting supply within our network,” EKEDC wrote.

“Restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with our critical stakeholders. Kindly bear with us.”

This second grid collapse in less than a week has disrupted power supply to millions, prompting concerns over the reliability of Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure. Efforts to restore power are currently underway, with distribution companies working alongside stakeholders to address the outage.
