BENIN CITY, Edo State – The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, paid a strategic courtesy visit to the Edo State Government House on Friday, where he met with Governor Monday Okpebholo to discuss deepening security collaboration and ongoing policing reforms.
Okay News reports that the visit served as a platform for the IGP to reaffirm the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to intelligence-led and community-oriented policing. During the high-level discussions, IGP Disu emphasized that security is a “shared responsibility” involving government institutions, traditional authorities, and civil society.
“Effective policing requires sustained collaboration between the Police, government institutions, traditional authorities, civil society, and the public,” the IGP noted, while commending the Edo State Government for its consistent support of the Force. He highlighted that building public trust and institutionalizing operational accountability remain at the core of his current reform agenda.
In response, Governor Monday Okpebholo congratulated the IGP on his appointment and reaffirmed the state’s readiness to provide the necessary support for proactive security operations. “Security remains the foundation upon which sustainable development thrives,” the Governor stated. “As a government, we will continue to deepen our partnership with the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering.”
Following his visit to the Government House, IGP Disu transitioned to the Rotary International District 9141 Conference, where he delivered a keynote lecture. Addressing a gathering of civic leaders and professionals, he spoke on the intersection of ethical leadership, community engagement, and national development.
The IGP stressed that strategic partnerships between law enforcement and civic organizations like Rotary are essential for effective crime prevention and youth engagement. He underscored that the modern Nigeria Police Force is focused on “improving public trust and enhancing operational accountability” as it seeks to create a more secure environment for all Nigerians.
The visit concludes a series of strategic engagements in the South-South region aimed at domesticating the Force’s new security architecture, which prioritizes local intelligence over reactive measures. The IGP was accompanied by senior officers of the Force Headquarters and the Edo State Command.
