Nigeria’s Relay Teams Secure Qualification for 2024 Paris Olympics

Nigeria’s 4x100m relay teams have stamped their tickets to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris following outstanding performances in recent qualifiers.

In the women’s category, the quartet comprising Eyakpobeyan Justina Tiana, Olajide Olayinka, Ofili Favour, and Godbless Tima Seikeseye achieved qualification on Monday morning in the Bahamas.

They clocked a season-best time of 42.71s, securing first place ahead of Team Switzerland.

Meanwhile, the men’s 4x100m relay team, consisting of Onwuzurike Udodi Chudi, Consider Emmanuel Ekanem, Akintola Alaba Olukunle, and Anunagba Karlington, finished second behind Ghana with a remarkable time of 38.57s.

This adds to Nigeria’s success in the qualifiers, as the country previously secured spots in the men’s 4x400m and mixed 4x400m relay races.

In the final of the mixed 4x400m relay race, Nigeria clinched fourth place with an impressive African record time of 1.38.71s, trailing behind the United States, The Netherlands, and Ireland.

The qualification list for the Paris Olympics includes:

Women’s 4x100m: Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Great Britain & NI, The Netherlands, Poland, United States, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Switzerland, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Italy.

Men’s 4x100m: Canada, China, France, Great Britain & NI, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, United States, Ghana, Nigeria, Germany, Liberia.

Women’s 4x400m: Canada, France, Great Britain & NI, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Poland, United States, Bahamas, Jamaica, India, Germany, Switzerland, Ukraine, The Netherlands, Belgium, Spain.

Men’s 4x400m: Belgium, Botswana, Germany, Great Britain & NI, Italy, Japan, Nigeria, South Africa, United States, India, Spain, Poland, Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago.

Mixed 4x400m: Belgium, Dominican Republic, France, Ireland, Netherlands, Nigeria, Poland, United States.
