The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has decorated 39 newly promoted officers with the rank of Comptroller of Immigration (CI). They advanced from Deputy Comptrollers.

Okay News reports that Comptroller-General Kemi Nanna Nandap performed the ceremony at the NIS Technology Building in Abuja, Nigeria’s federal capital. Spouses assisted in pinning new insignia.

Originally 46 officers qualified for promotion. One passed away before the event, while six retired and could not participate.

Nandap praised the promotees for dedication and excellence. She credited their records of leadership and institutional standards.

She thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo for approving the exercise. Their support prioritised officer welfare.

“Promotion by all standards was not automatic or solely a function of years of service, but was earned through dedication, loyalty, and a high sense of responsibility,” Nandap stated.

She urged vigilance amid national security challenges. Promotees must exemplify effective responses.

Nandap encouraged those not promoted to remain resilient. She assured opportunities through hard work.

Reforms continue to modernise NIS operations. Focus includes cutting-edge technologies for seamless services.

Upcoming initiatives feature the biometric-based Single Travel Emergency Passport (STEP) in 2026. It complements existing e-Visa and e-Passport systems.

Deputy Comptroller-General Afolayan Ayeni, overseeing Human Resources, echoed appreciation for presidential and ministerial backing. He called for rededication to NIS mandate.

Promotion adds responsibilities. Beneficiaries must uphold discipline and support transformation.

Promoted officers include Farouk Audu Umar, Olubu Kalu Ibe, Omoniwa David Adedeji, and others.

This exercise reinforces morale and leadership capacity. It aligns with broader efforts to professionalise immigration services nationwide.

The ceremony highlights commitment to merit-based advancement. It sustains operational effectiveness in border management and migration control.
