NJC Recommends Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as Next CJN

Published

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the next Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN). The recommendation was made during an emergency closed-door meeting held in Abuja on Thursday, August 15, 2024.

Justice Kekere-Ekun’s nomination comes as the current CJN, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, prepares to retire on August 22, 2024, upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70.

In addition to recommending Justice Kekere-Ekun as the next CJN, the NJC also nominated 27 other individuals as judges of the state high court during the meeting.

The recommendation is subject to confirmation by the relevant authorities. Further details are expected to be released shortly.
