The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) and Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo) officially unveiled the renovated Arrival Hall “E” at Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos on Friday.

The project aims to streamline immigration checks and enhance the overall passenger experience.

The upgraded Arrival Hall features a redesigned and redecorated space, boasting an increase in clearance counters from seven to 32.

The initiative also includes significant information technology (IT) equipment and facility upgrades.

The project inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of notable dignitaries, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who emphasized the positive impact of the initiative on Nigeria’s image as a welcoming destination.

In an address delivered by Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-governmental Relations, Olugbenga Oyerinde, Governor Sanwo-Olu stated, “The project is not merely a physical transformation; it is a symbol of our dedication to foster seamless passenger journeys and upholding Nigeria’s reputation as a welcoming destination.”

Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, commended the collaborative effort between NNPC, SNEPCo, and their co-venturers, emphasizing the historical significance of the initiative.

“History is waiting to be written. I’m happy NNPC, SNEPCo, and their co-venturers have chosen to be on the right side of history,” said Dr. Tunji-Ojo.

Bala Wunti, Chief Upstream Investment Officer (CUIO), NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), represented by External Affairs Manager, Mrs. Julie Utang, highlighted the achievement as a “testament to what can be achieved when organisations come together.” 

SNEPCo Managing Director, Mrs. Elohor Aiboni, echoed similar sentiments, saying that “Let today be a reminder of the potential that lies in collaborative efforts and the positive impact it can have on our nation’s infrastructure and overall development.”

Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration, Mrs. Wura-Ola Adepoju, and Regional General Manager, Southwest, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Mr. Sunday Ayodele, commended NNPC and SNEPCo for the initiative. The collaboration is expected to contribute significantly to the efficient screening of over two million travelers passing through MMIA annually.

Among the dignitaries present at the handover ceremony were Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Values and Social Justice, Mr. Fela Durotoye; Kabiyesi Olota of Ota, HRM Oba Adeyemi Obalanlege; and Director/Head Corporate Relations of The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd, (SPDC) Mr. Igo Weli.
