Washington, D.C., UNITED STATES — President Donald Trump issued a strong warning to Iran on Sunday, April 19, 2026, threatening to destroy the country’s power plants and bridges if a “fair and reasonable” deal is not reached during upcoming negotiations.
In a statement released on Truth Social, Trump accused Tehran of a “total violation” of the current ceasefire agreement following reports that Iranian gunboats fired on a French vessel and a United Kingdom-flagged freighter in the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday.
Okay News reports that the British military confirmed Revolutionary Guard boats opened fire on a tanker, though the crew was reported safe.
Trump announced that U.S. representatives—including special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner—will reach Islamabad, Pakistan, on Monday evening to resume peace talks. The President noted that while Iran has attempted to close the Strait of Hormuz again, the move is largely symbolic as a U.S. naval blockade imposed on April 13 already restricts Iranian shipping.
The White House estimate suggests the closure and blockade are costing Iran approximately $500 million a day in lost revenue. Trump asserted that the United States remains economically insulated from the disruption, with vessels redirected to ports in Texas, Louisiana, and Alaska to load supplies.
The President’s ultimatum comes as a two-week ceasefire is set to expire on Wednesday, April 22. Trump emphasized his intent to end what he termed the “Iran Killing Machine,” stating that if the Islamabad talks fail, the U.S. military will “knock out every single Power Plant, and every single Bridge, in Iran“.
Negotiations are expected to continue in Pakistan through Tuesday and potentially into Wednesday as diplomats seek to resolve the deadlock over Iran’s nuclear program and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
