Lagos, NIGERIA — The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, has officially commenced political consultations regarding his aspiration to contest for Lagos State Governor in 2027.

Hamzat met with the Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, on Sunday to discuss the strategic direction of the state and the essential work required to sustain its developmental trajectory.

Confirming the visit, Hon. Gbajabiamila noted that he received Dr. Hamzat and his entourage for a consultative meeting focused on the Deputy Governor’s future political goals.

Okay News reports that the Chief of Staff expressed confidence in Hamzat’s competence, stating that his “capacity is not in doubt” as they shared ideas on how to build upon the foundations laid by past governors of Lagos State.

Dr. Hamzat, who has served as the deputy to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu since 2019, emphasized that his focus is clear regarding the “shared responsibility” of moving the state forward. “We discussed the direction of our state and the work required to move it forward,” Hamzat remarked, adding the he is committed to delivering better outcomes for the people of Lagos.
