Nokia, the real Nokia – the one that gave us the 3310 and other trusty devices that dot our mobility journey –  not Microsoft’s mobile division is working on a new Android-powered device, Nokia C1, according to GSMArena.

Nokia confirmed rumours earlier in 2015 that it was getting back into the smartphones making business when the non-compete clause baked into its contract with Microsoft expires in December. It appears Nokia has been hard at work.

Initial renderings of the device were released last week, and live pictures came online yesterday.

The live pictures show the phone with a 5″ 1080p touchscreen, the primary camera and the LED flash aligned vertically on the back, a thin chassis and what appears to be unibody design. GSMArena says the phone will likely run the latest Android M in Vanilla.

The phone won’t be released until next year. Research, development and production will be in China.

Nokia (Microsoft’s mobile division) hasn’t be faring well under Microsoft’s watch and the company has been downsizing in recent months. In Nigeria, the company dismissed 34 staffers in July.
