Ogun State Government Sacks MAPOLY Rector

By Farouk Mohammed

The Ogun state government has sacked the Rector, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, Professor Oladele Itiola.

This development came barely two hours after students of the institution protested over the current situation in the school following its upgrade to Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology, Abeokuta.

The government in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Taiwo Adeoluwa, on Tuesday, directed the former rector to proceed on terminal leave with immediate effect.

It has appointed Ayodeji Tella to take over the administration of the institution as acting rector.

The state government said the action is part of the transition programme involving the institution and the new university.

The statement reads, “As part of the general transition programme involving the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, and the new Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology, Abeokuta, the state government has appointed Mr Ayodeji Salimon Tella, as the Acting Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, with immediate effect.

“The erstwhile Rector Professor Oladele Itiola is to proceed accordingly on his terminal leave.

”The state government wishes him the very best in his future endeavours and thank him for his service to the good people of the state.”

It was gathered that the former rector was due to proceed on a terminal leave in November before he was relieved of his appointment.
