Olumide Akpata, former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has officially signaled his intent to vie for the governorship position in Edo state by picking up expression of interest and nomination forms from the Labour Party (LP) headquarters in Abuja.

Akpata made the announcement of his gubernatorial bid on his social media page, breaking his hiatus to share the news with his followers.

The move marks the commencement of his journey to serve Edo state as Governor, with the forthcoming election scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for September 21.

In his statement, Akpata expressed gratitude for the support and called for active involvement from the public, stating, “Your involvement and support is crucial — let’s do this together!”

Furthermore, he urged delegates and LP members in Edo state to participate actively in the primaries and to support his candidacy.

Akpata emphasized the significance of the primaries in selecting the party’s flagbearer for the Edo gubernatorial election.

“The die is cast. As we say, game on. I want to call on our party members in Edo state to actively participate in the primaries that will see to the election of the party flagbearer,” Akpata stated.

“Of course, I ask them not just to participate but also support and nominate me as flagbearer of our great Labour Party in the upcoming Edo gubernatorial election scheduled for the 21st of September 2024.”
