Ondo: Aiyedatiwa Assumes Duty as Acting Governor

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

The Acting Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa has urged unity and concerted efforts towards steering the state back onto the trajectory of rapid development.

This was conveyed during a state broadcast on Thursday morning. Aiyedatiwa emphasized the importance of unity in his call for accelerated progress.

This address followed the transmission of power to him by his principal, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who is on medical leave, a move ratified by the state assembly.

Okay.ng had reported that the Ondo State House of Assembly subsequently declared Aiyedatiwa Acting Governor.

Encouraging the people of the South-Western state to maintain their unwavering prayers for Governor Akeredolu’s swift recovery, Aiyedatiwa stressed the urgency of resuming the path of accelerated progress that the state has temporarily strayed from in recent months.

“We must unite and refocus on propelling the welfare and security of our people,” Aiyedatiwa asserted. “Our unity and shared purpose must prevail as we forge ahead. Let’s build a future together, leaving behind divisions of the past, for the betterment of our beloved Sunshine State.”

Reflecting on the recent political intrigues and challenges, particularly concerning Governor Akeredolu’s health, Aiyedatiwa acknowledged the distractions faced by the state, terming them as avoidable. He highlighted the need for unwavering governance and seamless leadership, expressing regret over the interruptions to the state’s governance structure.

“Recent events have been avoidable distractions,” he admitted. “Our responsibility is to uphold the governance excellence established by Governor Akeredolu over the last six-and-a-half years.”

Acknowledging the support received during this critical period, Aiyedatiwa expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and other leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for their assistance during Ondo State’s challenging times.

The state continues its journey amidst transition, with Akeredolu commencing another medical leave overseas this week.
