By Oluwadara Akingbohungbe

Nigeria’s former Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, has been appointed by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to lead its Election Observation Mission for the forthcoming presidential election in Côte d’Ivoire.

According to a statement released by the ECOWAS Secretariat on Sunday in Abuja, the election is scheduled to take place on October 25, 2025.

The regional body stated that the observation team would be on ground from October 19 to October 29, in line with the ECOWAS Supplementary Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.

Okay News reports that the mission will be responsible for observing and evaluating the entire electoral process to ensure transparency, fairness, and peace before, during, and after the polls.

As the Head of Mission, Osinbajo is expected to lead a team of respected West African figures who will engage with key political actors and stakeholders to encourage a credible and peaceful exercise.

The ECOWAS statement added that the delegation will also work closely with both international and domestic observer groups, promoting collaboration and sharing of vital election-related information.

It emphasized that the deployment of the team demonstrates ECOWAS’s strong commitment to peace, stability, and credible democratic processes within the West African sub-region.
