#OyoDecides2023: INEC declares Seyi Makinde as winner of governorship election

Seyi Makinde, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been declared the winner of the governorship election in Oyo State held on March 18, 2023.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Makinde as the winner after he defeated his opponents, including Akinwale Tayo of the Labour Party (LP) and Teslim Folarin of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Makinde won the election with a total of 563,756 votes, defeating his closest rival who scored 256,685 votes.

The Returning Officer for the election in Oyo State, Prof Adebayo Simeon, declared Makinde as the winner of the election, stating that he satisfied all legal requirements.

“That Makinde Oluseyi Abiodun of the PDP, having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected by the Returning Officer, Prof Adebayo Simeon on this day 19th of March 2023,” he said.
