Chibuzor Chinyere, founder of Omega Power Ministries, has officiated the marriage of a young autistic man, Aboy Chibuzor, to an older single woman, drawing mixed reactions across Nigeria.
The wedding ceremony took place on March 29, 2026, at the church, where the groom, who is reportedly non-verbal and requires daily assistance—has lived under the pastor’s care since being abandoned as a child.
Okay News reports that the pastor backed the union with significant financial support, including ₦10 million, a house, and promises of further benefits such as an overseas trip and additional funds in the future. He explained that the arrangement was aimed at providing companionship and long-term support for the young man.
The decision, however, had earlier triggered widespread criticism, with some Nigerians describing the move as inappropriate and unfair to women. In response, Chinyere apologised, insisting he had no intention of demeaning anyone.
In a follow-up update, the pastor claimed signs of improvement in the groom’s condition, stating that he had begun feeding himself independently and expressing optimism that he may eventually regain speech.
