Peter Obi Condemns FG’s Plan to Purchase New Presidential Jets

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has criticized the Federal Government’s plan to buy new aircraft for the Presidential fleet, describing it as “unacceptable and insensitive” to the suffering of Nigerians.

Obi, in a statement on his social media handle, expressed dismay that the government is contemplating such a move at a time when the country is facing its worst economic crisis, marked by high inflation, a falling currency, and widespread poverty.

He argued that the decision highlights the disconnect between the government and the people, and that the resources should be prioritized towards alleviating the suffering of citizens, rather than adding to the luxuries of the presidency.

Obi also drew comparisons with the United States, where the Vice President’s official residence, built over 100 years ago, is valued at less than the $15 million being spent on the Nigerian Vice President’s residence.

He called for a refocus on the needs of the people, prioritizing education, healthcare, and lifting citizens out of poverty, to build a nation that truly serves its people.
