Bauchi, Bauchi State, NIGERIA — Former presidential candidate Peter Obi concluded a tour of Bauchi State on Thursday, with a visit to the Thomas Moore School of Health, Sciences and Technology.
The visit, which followed a meeting with Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, centered on Obi’s advocacy for human capital development within the healthcare sector.
During his stop at the institution, Obi announced an additional donation of ₦10 million (approx. $7,973) specifically earmarked for student scholarships.
Okay News reports that the school’s management expressed deep appreciation, noting that a previous ₦10 million ($6,660) donation from Obi had been instrumental in modernizing the institution’s laboratories.
“Health is the number one critical factor for development, and we must invest in the human infrastructure needed for that development,” Obi stated. His itinerary in the state also included visits to Madarasatu Intisharul Islam Qismu Tahfizul Qur’an in Yelwa and Malikiya College of Nursing Sciences, reflecting a broad focus on both religious and professional education.
The visit is part of Obi’s ongoing nationwide tour to support critical sectors through private philanthropy. By focusing on health sciences and nursing education, the former governor emphasized the urgent need to address the manpower gap in Nigeria’s medical field. The total ₦20 million (approx. $13,320) donated to the institution is expected to provide financial relief to numerous indigent students, ensuring that financial constraints do not truncate their medical training.
