Peter Obi: I’m More Desperate to See Nigeria Work Than to Be President

By Muhammad A. Aliyu

Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has stated that he is more desperate to see Nigeria work than to become its president, Okay.ng reports.

In a recent appearance on New Central TV, Obi addressed speculations about his potential candidacy in the 2027 presidential election and the possibility of accepting a vice-presidential role.

“Quite frankly, for me, I’m not desperate to be Nigerian president. I am desperate to see Nigeria work,” Obi said. “If I see people who can do the work better, I will. I even have people who say I should not come out in 2027, and I said to them, offer yourself. And we will put everybody on a scale.”

Regarding rumors of his potential departure from the Labour Party due to internal leadership crises, Obi dismissed the speculations.

“I would be here, and if anybody is coming for us to negotiate or to come together, he must tell me what his purposes are,” the former governor affirmed.

There have been circulating rumors that Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and Peter Obi may form an alliance ahead of the 2027 election.
