Peter Obi Urges Supporters to Endure Attacks as Sacrifice for New Nigeria

By Muhammad A. Aliyu

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has called on his supporters to bear the attacks they receive as a sacrifice for a new Nigeria.

He made the call in a series of tweets on Monday, saying that he and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, are pained that their supporters, popularly known as ‘Obidients’, are being attacked because they choose to stand by them.

“Datti and I are painfully mindful that for the mere reason of being OBIdient, most of you have suffered vituperations, physical attacks, loss of rights and privileges, hateful trolls, indignities and vexatious fighting words, even from some of those we long regarded as civic leaders and conscience of our nation,” he tweeted.

Obi went on to urge his supporters to bear such attacks as the sacrifices required to create a new Nigeria where justice, equity, fairness, love, and prosperity shall reign.

He assured them that he and Baba-Ahmed are with them and that the ongoing efforts to demarket and delegitimize the OBIdient Movement will fail.

“We are fully structured and have remained focused and steadfast in addressing the ills in our nation while underpinning the supremacy of our Constitution and imperatives of the rule of law,” he said.

Obi also stated that he and Baba-Ahmed are using all lawful and peaceful means to reclaim their mandate to create a new Nigeria. He implored his supporters to be law-abiding, respectful, and peaceful in all their actions and inactions.
