Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest person, announced that petrol supply from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery will commence in July, following a minor delay.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Dangote Sinotruk West Africa’s completely knocked-down (CKD) plant in Lagos on June 9, Dangote provided updates on the refinery’s production schedule.

Initially, Dangote had stated on May 18 that the refinery would start producing petrol in June, signaling an end to Nigeria’s need to import the product.

However, addressing the recent delay, he assured that petrol supply would begin soon.

“We had a bit of delay, but PMS [Premium Motor Spirit] will start coming out by 10 to 15 of July. But then we want to keep it in the tank to make sure that it settles,” Dangote explained.

“So by the third week of July, we’ll be able to come out to take it into the market.”

The announcement comes after Dangote revealed on June 3 that some international oil companies (IOCs) were experiencing difficulties in supplying crude to the refinery.

In response, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) stated on June 5 that discussions are ongoing with the IOCs to ensure they meet domestic crude oil supply obligations.
