Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state on Thursday officially declared his intention to run for the 2019 presidential election.
The governor is seeking the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The declaration was attended by the former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode, former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Iyiola Omisore, amongst other politicians.
While speaking, Fani-Kayode said the governor had done the right thing, as the PDP cannot wait for other candidates.
The former minister, who commended Fayose for standing up to President Muhammadu Buhari, also said Nigeria needed a governor that would stand up and fight for the masses.
Also speaking, Omisore praised the Ekiti governor for coming out to openly declare for 2019.
He said Fayose had worked hard to make Ekiti among the best states in the country.
Omisore said the governor had exhibited wisdom and vision, showing that he is capable of leading the country.
