PHOTOS: Police Again Disperse Shi’ite Protesters in Abuja

By Farouk Mohammed

Police Officers of the Abuja command have again dispersed members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, protesting the continued detention of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

The protesters made up of mostly youths began their march from Garki Area 10 heading towards Area 1.

They were however confronted by armed security operatives at Garki Area 3, who barricaded the road in an attempt to halt the protest.

The IMN members however insisted on continuing with their demonstration, leading to another confrontation between them and the security operatives.

This led to the release of gunshots and teargas canisters on the part of the policemen, who went on to arrest some of the protesters.

This is the umpteenth time security operatives will violently disperse peaceful protests by the group.

The Shi’ite members are demanding the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-zakzaky who has been government detention since 2015.
