Police Arrest Suspect for Illegally Streaming MultiChoice Content

The Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police has arrested a suspect for illegally streaming MultiChoice’s SuperSport content, Okay.ng reports.

The suspect, who allegedly acquired a domain name to facilitate the illegal streaming service, was apprehended in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, on August 22, 2024.

The website in question reportedly garnered approximately 3.1 million visits globally, with over 1.2 million visits originating from Africa alone.

Frikkie Jonker, the director of broadcasting and cyber piracy at Irdeto, a cybersecurity firm, commented on the arrest, highlighting the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and the private sector in combating piracy.

“All forms of piracy continue to pose a significant threat to the creative industry,” Jonker stated.

He continued, “The arrest of this notorious pirate is a testament to what can be achieved when law enforcement agencies and private sectors work hand in hand. We sincerely appreciate the Nigerian police’s unwavering support, which has led to this positive outcome.”
