Police confirm release of 3 kidnapped officers in Cross River

By Okay News

Three of the police officers, including an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), were freed from the clutches of some neighborhood teenagers, according to the Cross River Police Command.

The release was confirmed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo, to news agencies in Calabar on Tuesday.

She claimed that while performing their official duties, the cops were taken prisoner by some teenagers in Ndon Owong, Odukpani Local Government Area, of the state.

According to Ugbo, the policemen were freed on Monday by SP Awodi Abdulhameed’s Anti Cultism and Kidnapping Squad (ACKS).

You might remember that five people were allegedly accused of witchcraft and slain before being buried in a shallow grave. They were supposedly murdered by several neighborhood kids who blamed them for bad things that had happened in Ndon Owong.

Ugbo reported that two suspects had been detained in connection with the hostage-taking of the officers and the deaths of the five women.

“Nobody can impose their own laws because witchcraft is not recognized by our constitution. If they had a case, they need to have gone through the proper channels to handle it rather than taking innocent lives.”

Over what I called baseless claims, five people were brutally killed in cold blood and buried in a shallow grave inside the forest. She said, “It is savage, it is unacceptable, and we will stop at nothing to make sure that the apprehended individuals received the full force of the law.
