Presidency Reacts to Peter Obi’s ADC Exit, Calls Him a ‘Political Nomad’

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

Abuja, NIGERIA — The Presidency has launched a scathing verbal attack on the former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, following his decision to resign from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, dismissed Obi’s departure as the act of an “opportunistic” politician who lacks the courage to face internal democratic competition.

The reaction follows a lengthy, “reflective” letter released by Obi after a Sunday church service on 3 May, in which he claimed he was leaving the ADC due to “endless court cases, internal battles, and suspicion.” Obi alleged that agents of the Nigerian state had infiltrated the ADC to create the same hostility that forced him out of the Labour Party.

Okay News reports that while Obi maintained he was not “desperate” for power but rather for a functional society, Onanuga characterized the move as an attempt to avoid a primary battle with heavyweights like Atiku Abubakar or Rotimi Amaechi.

Onanuga further described Obi as a “politician made of jelly” who chooses the “easy road” rather than engaging in the hard work of party building. He accused Obi of “illogical musings” and failing to conduct “soul-searching” regarding his own political history.
