The presidency has congratulated Nigerian-born British heavyweight boxing champion Mr. Anthony Femi Joshua.

This was contained in a statement from the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammad Buhari on Diaspora and Foreign Relations, Honourable Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who said that Femi’s wins reflected his “hard work, tireless dedication and a brave heart” which he had displayed.

The statement further revealed that “the British professional boxer, was born to a Nigerian mother and father, spent his early years in Nigeria before returning to the UK.

“He is now the current IBF heavyweight champion who also holds the British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles.“

Joshua, fondly referred to as AJ, is ranked the world’s sixth best heavyweight boxer by The Ring magazine and the second boxer in history to win a professional world heavyweight title while doubling as the Olympic champion at the top weight.

“Femi, however, will be defending his title by June 25th, 2016,” the statement further read, calling on Nigerians to support him.

Meanwhile, she described the approval of the 300 million Diaspora Bond passed by the National Assembly unanimously as a good development, and encouraged all Nigerian patriots in the Diaspora to take advantage of it.

According to her, “5 – 10 years maturity and annual dividends between five percent and eight percent way more than bank deposit or certificate of deposit which is within two percent interest rates are certainly a plus for patriotic investors.”

She added “that the bond will give opportunities to patriots to actively engage in the welfare of their loved country, Nigeria.”

Just last night, Anthony Joshua also bagged a Sports Achievement award at the Silverbird Man of the Year award ceremony. This award which was also given to Samson Siasia and Emmanuel Amunike.
