The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has completed the disbursement of N3.9 billion in arrears to 91,146 retirees under Nigeria’s Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS). The payments form part of the N32,000 increment approved by President Bola Tinubu.
According to PTAD’s Head of Corporate Communications, Olugbenga Ajayi, the breakdown of the disbursements is as follows: N1.9 billion to 59,865 retirees under the Parastatals Pension Department; N830 million to 12,976 retirees under the Civil Service Pension Department; N620 million to 9,689 retirees under the Police Pension Department; and N551 million to 8,616 retirees under the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, and the Prisons Pension Department.
The Executive Secretary of PTAD, Tolulope Odunaiya, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to settling all outstanding arrears and improving pensioners’ welfare under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He emphasised that the payments reflect the administration’s focus on timely pension management and the financial security of retirees.
PTAD noted that the increment package includes both a fixed N32,000 payment and percentage increases ranging from 10.66 per cent to 12.95 per cent for eligible retirees, benefiting approximately 832,000 pensioners under its management. The implementation of the new pension adjustments began with the September 2025 payroll cycle.
The Directorate highlighted that the disbursement covers all eligible categories, ensuring equitable treatment across federal institutions and security agencies. PTAD continues to engage with stakeholders to streamline the pension process and prevent delays in future payments.
This latest payout underscores the government’s ongoing effort to enhance retirement benefits, reduce arrears, and provide financial stability to retired public servants. It also reflects a broader commitment to reforming pension administration and supporting the welfare of retirees nationwide.
