Saraki Urges Federal Government to Act After Deadly Kwara Bandits Attack

By Muhammad A. Aliyu

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has condemned the deadly attack on Eruku, a border community in Kwara State, describing it as a “seriously disturbing” incident that has shattered the peace of the usually calm town.

Okay News reports that the assault, carried out by suspected bandits, left several residents injured, others kidnapped, and at least two confirmed dead.

In a statement posted on his verified X account on Wednesday, Saraki expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and extended his prayers to families affected by the violence.

“Yesterday, I received the sad news of the terrorist attack on Eruku town in my home State, Kwara. In the terrible incident, some residents were injured while some others were kidnapped. It is a seriously disturbing news which has disrupted the usually serene and peaceful atmosphere of the town located in the southern part of our dear state,” he wrote.

Saraki offered sympathy to the victims and their relatives, saying, “I sympathise with all the victims and their relatives. I pray for Allah’s healing, restoration and strength at this difficult time.”

The former Senate President called on the Federal Government and heads of national security agencies to act swiftly to secure the release of the kidnapped victims and restore safety in the area.

“I call on the Federal government, particularly the heads of our security agencies to urgently act to ensure that the kidnapped victims of this sad incident regain their freedom and return home safely to their loved ones,” he said.

He also urged authorities to implement stronger, long-term security arrangements for Eruku and the wider Kwara region.

“The state is one of the gateways into the country and a link between the southern and northern parts. This makes it deserving of a special security arrangement that will not jeopardise our national interest and internal peace,” he added.

Saraki concluded with a prayer for peace: “May Allah (SWT) heal our land and help us defeat all those waging wars against Nigeria.”

The attack in Eruku adds to a growing list of violent incidents across northern Nigeria, including the recent kidnapping of schoolgirls in Maga, Kebbi State, prompting renewed calls for enhanced security measures nationwide.
