The kingdom of Saudi Arabia has announced that this years’ Hajj will hold with “very limited” capacity due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Saudi’s Hajj ministry announced this in a statement on Monday.

According to the statement, only pilgrims already living in the kingdom will be allowed to take part in the pilgrimage that begins in late July.

“It was decided to hold the pilgrimage this year with very limited numbers … with different nationalities in the kingdom,” the statement said partly.

The government did not specify how many people would be permitted to take part.

“This decision is taken to ensure Hajj is performed in a safe manner from a public health perspective while observing all preventative measures and the necessary social distancing protocols,” the statement added.
