Saudi Arabia to Allow Women to Drive

By Farouk Mohammed

Saudi Arabia on Tuesday announced the end of a longstanding policy against women driving.

In the royal decree issued by King Salman, a ministerial body has been ordered to implement the change after a 30-day period of consultations.

The change was announced on the state television and would take effect from June 2018.

The delay in implementation might not be unconnected to the fact that the ultraconservative nation does not yet have in lace infrastructure for such things as driving schools for women, application for and issuance of driving licences for women and other things the decision might throw up.
