Senate Commences Confirmation Screening For Nominated EFCC Chairman

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

The Senate has begun confirmation proceedings for Mr. Ola Olukoyede, the nominee for the position of Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission as he is currently present at the National Assembly.

The confirmation screening process is presently ongoing at the Senate in Abuja.

His appointment by President Bola Tinubu followed the suspension of the former head of the anti-graft agency, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, nearly four months ago.

Tinubu recently authorised Olukoyede’s appointment as the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, and the nomination is subject to Senate confirmation.

Okay.ng had reported how members of a group, Centre for Democracy and Human Rights stormed the premises of the National Assembly in Abuja yesterday, demanding the removal of Mr. Olukoyede by the Senate over alleged lack of qualifications.

The group’s National Secretary, Adebayo Ogorry, while asking the leadership of the Senate led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio to sack Olukoyede, noted that President Bola Tinubu, in appointing the new EFCC boss, allegedly failed to obey the extant laws guiding the appointment of EFCC chairman.
