Adejuwon Soyinka, the West African Regional Editor of the Conversation Africa and Pioneer Editor of the BBC Pidgin Service, was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Sunday.

According to reports, Soyinka was detained around 5:40 a.m. upon his arrival from the United Kingdom via a Virgin Atlantic flight. The reason for his detention is currently unknown, as the DSS has not provided any explanation.

Soyinka’s friend reported that he has been unreachable, with calls and messages to his phone going unanswered.

However, DSS spokesperson Peter Afunanya denied knowledge of the arrest, stating, “I am not aware of the matter you have raised.”
